A rare eighteenth century "WISMUT MALEREI" box.

A beechwood box. Long 19 cm. Wide 12 cm High 9 cm. Entirely painted with "WISMUT MALEREI", consisting of flowers, branches and sunbursts. This type of decoration is typical for the Southern German area and was already present in the sixteenth century. The name is derived from the chemical element bismuth. Boxes like this one in good condition are extremely rare. This particular box is in mint condition with slight signs of use.
