An extremely rare early seventeenth century drop leaf table from Hindeloopen.

A drop leaf table. Overall height with leaf upright : 110 cm. Height with leaf horizontal 66 cm. Diameter of the twelve sided drop leaf 77 cm. On the decorated side a winter landscape with a scene of two children in trouble because of immersion in a hole in the ice, being rescued by four men handling a ladder. On the other side the leaf is painted green with a "faux bois" border. The presence of a non biblical scene is very unusual. Futhermore all typical Hindeloopen decorations are present: birds, angels, flowers, notably tulips, cherries and their blossoms. The table is in excellent condition with signs of use.
