A lock keepers money box. Long 23 cm. High(excl.handle) 8,5 cm. Wide 7 cm. The box has an iron handle of 18 cm high on two rings. On the upper part of the box is a lid with a ring which closes an area underneath for receiving the money. When a ship is inside the lock, the keeper lowers this box on a rope and the required fee can be paid inside. This box was used in Zeeland towards the end of the 19th C. It is in mint condition. Only a few of these boxes are still in existence.
