A small painted oak 18th C schoolbox from Zeeland.

An oak schoolbox. Overall height 37 cm. Width 23 cm. Depth 8,5 cm. The construction is typical for the province of Zeeland with a divided front connected with two original forged iron butterfly hinges. The box is decorated with both kerbschnitt and red and white paint. On the bottom half the owners initials: "J.M.". In very good condition with an old repair to the upper back. Most connections with wooden pegs. Zeeland, mid 18th C.
